ABOUT THE BOOK

An Introduction to Public International Law After the publication of the last edition of the book in 2019, significant developments have occurred in all areas of international law. These developments are more pronounced in the sphere of international peace and security. Many national and international armed conflicts have taken place during this period and some are still continuing. The wars between Ukraine and Russia, and Israel-Hamas have highlighted the limits of the United Nations in stopping or limiting them due to the veto-yielding nations. In the light of these developments, the book has been thoroughly revised and updated. Several chapters have been restructured and updated. A new chapter on State Succession has been added in this edition. In its treatment of different topics, the present edition has referred the relevant decisions rendered by different dispute settlement bodies, including the International Court of Justice, Permanent Court of Arbitration, International Criminal Court and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Besides, it has taken into account the significant recent judgments rendered by Indian courts and some national courts to reflect on the State practice on international law. The book, though, is primarily aimed at graduate and undergraduate students studying international law, it is nevertheless a valuable and useful reference book for political science students, researchers, law practitioners and counsels dealing with the issues of international Law.S.K. Verma, S.J.D. (Harvard), LL.M. (Berkeley) has been the Executive-President, Secretary- General and the Director of the Indian Society of International Law. She is the (Former) Director of the Indian Law Institute and Dean and Head of the Faculty of Law, Delhi University.
