An Introduction to Animal Laws in India provides an overview of the development of animal rights in international law and the status of animals within the Indian Constitution. The book outlines the current regulations in Indian law and the international perspective for use of animals in agriculture; the custody of animals in zoos; the use of draught animals; the transportation of animals; the keeping of animals as pets; the use of animals in experiments; and the protection of wild animals and endangered species. Animal Law is an emerging field of law which explains the legal protection of the social and biological needs of animals. This branch of law is a combination of statutory laws and case laws from multiple legal fields which consider, at their core, the interests of animals or the interests of humans with respect to animals. An Introduction to Animal Laws in India examines various projects and policies of the Indian government and the authorities that protect the interests of animals. The book discusses laws relating to cattle preservation and livestock improvement, prevention of cruelty to animals, slaughter of animals for food, sacrifice of animals for religious purposes, experiments on animals, performing animals for business or culture, transportation of animals, treatment of animal diseases, trade of animals and birds, and conservation of wild animals in India.
